Carson-Newman University Carsh headlines men's soccer's all conference selections

Carson Newman men's soccer had four players selected to a South Atlantic All-Conference team, as announced by the league office earlier today.

Senior Nic Carsh earned his third career all-conference honr and his first, first-team all-conference selection. He was a second-team selection in 2019 and 2021. The Newberg, Oregon native scored a team-high four goals and had two assists in the 16 games he played this season. Two of his four goals came in the 5-3 win over Spring Hill on August 28th.

"I think getting to play forward more helped," Carsh said. "In general, I thought we had a really good team. My first year playing I got a second-team selection and I thought oh great I'll be up there every single year and it didn't really work out that way and it was a little frustrating. This year it's exciting to finally be up to where I want to be."

C-N's lone second-team selection was senior forward Willem Kruijk. He recorded a team best six assists this season, which ranked 2nd in the conference. The senior assisted on two of C-N's three goals in a win over #14 Mars Hill back on September 28th. Kruijk scored two goals this season, both were game winners.

The Eagles other two all-conference honors came from senior defenders Ben King and Eric Schmutzer who were named to the third team.

Schmutzer started and played in 16 games for the Eagles this season. He scored four goals and recorded one assist. The four goals were scored in different games and came when C-N was either trailing or tied with its opponent.

King earns his first career SAC honor. The Hertfordshire, England native has played in 68 career games, making 60 starts. His 60 starts rank ninth all-time in program history. Over the course of 68 games, he played in a total of 5,281 minutes which ranks 4th in program history.
