The Lee volleyball team's difficult start to the 2022 season continued this weekend in Arkansas as the Lady Flames dropped matches to Arkansas Monticello, Harding, and Quachita Baptist.
The Lady Flames fell in the opener on Friday, 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19) to UAM. Lee lost host school, Harding 3-0 in the nightcap in straight sets (25-13, 25-8, 25-15. The Lady Flames would fall to 2-9 on the season with a straight set (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) lost to Quachita Baptist on Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
Scottie Cook and Macy Petty had nine kills each and Abby Stroh added eight in the loss to Arkansas Monticello. Ashton Middleton posted a career-high 35 assists and Grace Mazzocca had match-high five blocks.
Facing a 9-1 Harding team the Lady Flames never got things clicking. Allie Whittinghill paced the offense with six kills and Mazzocca had five. In the final match against the Tigers, Stroh posted 17 kills for Lee while Middleton tallied a double-double with 33 assists and 15 digs.
It was a tough weekend for us mentally as a team. We played three great programs who showed up with great pin attackers and aggressive servers. Finding a rhythm became hard at times and just getting on runs," said Lee head coach Callie Tabisz. "I felt in the UAM game we had a few members of the team step up and grit out the sets, but against Harding we did not stay disciplined on our side of the ball while playing some incredibly tough attackers. We need to find consistency and stay true to who we are. We had good moments today but could not string them together for match wins."
The Lady Flames will now enter Gulf South Conference play as they travel to Jackson, Tenn. to square off with Union University on Friday at 8 p.m. before a quick trip from Jackson over to Memphis to tangle with Christian Brothers on Saturday at 3 p.m.
