Austin Peay State University’s softball team got a 3-for-3 day from leadoff hitter Megan Hodum, Saturday morning at Brinkley Stadium, on Day 2 of the Runnin’ Bulldog Classic, but it wasn’t enough as the Governors fell to the Ohio Bobcats, 10-5.

The Govs second game of the day versus George Mason, as well as their Sunday morning rematch versus Ohio have been cancelled due to rain.

Austin Peay jumped out to a quick lead against the Bobcats, as Hodum led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on a throwing error by the Bobcats catcher to give the Govs a 1-0 lead.

Hodum would be a big part of the Govs next two runs in the third inning also, as her triple drove in Morgan Zuege, who had singled, when score on a Bobcat infield error to go up 3-0.

Hodum would finish the game reaching base four times in the contest, with a walk to go with her three hits.

Ohio (2-0) would cut the Govs lead to 3-2 with a two-run fourth inning, but Austin Peay responded with two runs of its own in the top of the fifth, with Mea Clark driving in Lexi Osowski-Anderson with a double, flowed by Kylie Campbell driving in pinch runner Raylon Roach with a single to push the Govs lead back out to three, 5-2.

Clark would finish the game with two hits.

But an eight-run bottom of the fifth inning proved to be too much for the Govs to overcome, as the Bobcats pulled away for a 10-5 final margin.
